Let 'er rip! NCD 2008 is off and running'. Start pulling the dogs and tots out of the oven, crack open the ceremonial first PBR, and get started.
And make sure to check out all the resources for hosts, and submit your photo to the PBR Photo Contest.
We'll keep this thread running all day for updates and other fun. Comment away!

SD update and a TD question
The first Sioux Falls NCD was, as Borat would say, "great success". We had many enthusiastic first-time partygoers, a couple of triple doubles, and an excellent Guitar Hero set-up for those moments when one could no longer bear to watch as his bracket fell apart... But that's another story.
One rules question regarding the Triple Double: At the 2nd annual Brookings, SD party, one outstanding host (who shall remain nameless...) finished the Triple Double but could not keep it down through the last buzzer. I know that "losing possession" prior to completing the TD means you start over at zero. But does the TD count as soon as it's finished, or does one need to hang onto all thirty units through the end of the last game?
Toothless.
This lead to quite the discussion at the aformentioned Brookings party, especially since it was one of the hosts who "lost it". In the end the crowd was split, but photos with our three TD achivers were taken and the certificate was signed before the incident. The chucker got some "hardship points" which, during the discussion, may have swayed some of the guests -- our host completed the entire feat without his left front tooth due to an unfortunate ice sakting accident and a slow dentist.
Great question!
We had someone "lose possession" with about 2 oz of beer to go. That is a DQ. Our rule at our party is that a comlete finish of the TD requirements equals a TD. If they "maintain possession" through the TD ceremony, they recieve prizes and bragging rights.
Corvallis sets a standard all can shoot for
Fear the birthplace of NCD! Eleven verified triple doubles (three female)compelled me to offer some ground rules/strategery for future combatants. You may disagree with some point, but experience has shown these concepts to have validity.
Rule #1. If you have a significant other, either get the ok to go for it or at least prepare them for the state you will be in later that day, the next day, and Monday after work. Trust me here, just trust me. It is not just you that could be adversely affected.
The concept of go big early still seems to be the strongest. Our earliest finisher had six dogs and five beverages in by halftime of the first game.
Do not save half of either the tots or the dogs for the final game. Recipe for disaster. All you have at this point is a headache, a stomach ache and no hope of finishing.
Strong argument for staying off the condiments...as it was stated by one back to back TD finisher "They are just empty calories".
Don't think about your count. Many of our competitors found that the mental obstacles were far more challenging to overcome than the physical obstacles.
Judges rulings can play a role in finishing this task. Mashed tots are awful to look at, but deemed acceptable. Mixing 70 tots with ketchup only makes the plate look even larger though. Naps have been deemed reasonable. Walks are also reasonable, But food and beverage counts do no apply off premises.
Finishing off the TD with 100 pushups is wholly unnecessary, but a nice touch.
We are not gender biased. 10/100/10 is 10/100/10. Today's performance verified this fact. Two of our female finishers were doing better than most of the men after it was all done and over.
Water is a key in this mix. Your fingers will feel like sausages and your head will hurt. As one finisher stated "My stomach feels like a block of cement." You have to balance your salt intake. In this case, I disagree with one partygoers assessment that "Beer is water."
Needing fresh air and a walk before noon is an indication that maybe this isn't the feat for you. (Props to Cari nonetheless, I have never seen someone fight through more physical pain to complete this feat than that woman.) *On another note, if you talk the talk you better walk the walk. Every rookie thinks this is easy. When you have every chew feel like a kick in the jaw, then and only then do you understand what a true challenge this task is.
"This is an exhibition, not a competition." Good words to live by. Don't try to one up your buddy. If you do you will be lying on the ground ruining the hosts lawn or even worse answering the front door in your underwear.
Corvallis party TD finishers - You did it right and I was proud of you. This party is a great example of why this phenomenon is growing nation wide. One of my most enjoyable NCD's ever. Met many new faces and saw old friends having a great time watching basketball eating corndogs and enjoying beverages. Thanks again to Foster Farms, Pabst, and lastly thanks to the Hein family for hosting. I love how in three short years you have taken this holiday and made it your own.

Special Thanks to WGN Radio
My very special thanks go out to WGN Radio's Nick Digilio, and Andy Hermann.
If it were not for these two guy's, we would have never heard of National Corn Dog Day in our area.
It was three years ago that Nick interviewed Brady on his weekly radio show, and the word has spread like fire from there.
When Brady was interviewed by Nick this year, I think Brady had mentioned that the number of NCD parties exploded to over 4000!
Below is a link to the WGN Radio web site: http://wgnradio.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=40281&Itemid=253
Thanks again to Nick, Andy, Brady, and Brady's dad for introducing us to National Corn Dog Day!
This year, our party added the eating requirement of 10 mini cupcakes. You always need a desert to seal the meal!
The upcoming 2009 celebration, may be just enough to halt our country from going into a recession, by having production triple at Foster Farms, Pabst Brewing Company, and the future tater tot sponsor.
Imagine this someday: National Corn Dog Day replaced by World Corn Dog Day!!!
(WGN Radio has a 52,000 watt transmiter. This radio blowtorch signal reaches out to alot of the states, and I say it can be even heard on the International Space Station.)
MMMMMM.....Corn Dogs !

Results from Albany
Albany's Corndog Gluttony Extravaganza was a raging success.
The future doctors and lawyers of upstate New York gathered and laid waste to all 96 dogs supplied by Foster Farms. Two triple doubles were in the house, as well as at least five triple singles.
Our hero started out at a blistering pace, clearing all 10 corndogs, 60 tots, and four PBRs by the halfway point of the second half of THE FIRST GAME. It was a truly herculean feat of corndog eating. Soon after that, the tots and dogs asserted themselves, and he was rendered unconscious for a brief time. He quickly rallied and completed the triple double in an amazing 4 hours. Incredibly... he. wasn't. done. He managed five more beers and another unit of tots before heading to the bar.
The second triple double took until about 2130 EDT. It truly was a battle of wills toward the end. The dogs and tots eventually lost... at least until morning when the full measure of their power will be revealed.
I shall not eat another corndog until NCD '09. I should be just about done digesting by then.
VIVA NCD!
NoPo Update
Everyone started out very strong, but only two finished the triple double. For all of you out there think that is an easy task, let me tell you it is not. We had one contestant make it to his last third of his beer and he had to puke, therefor disqualifying himself.....SoupNazi
Ps. We also consumed the Costco 1/4 lb corndogs as well.
Russ- Nice talking to you
Russ- Nice talking to you and congrats on a fabulous celebration!

Updates from the SFSETH party.
Seth F. got a triple d. He started early, ate steady, and seems to be in good shape.
Seth Z. got a double d. He has a note from his doctor excusing him from drinking beer.
Many double doubles were had - big men talk big but can't eat their tiny tots.
We did not have a repeat of last year's beer-only double double, which is probably a good thing.
10 + 1 pending

North Raleigh Update
Jim gets the double-double 10 and 10 for the second year running
John goes for the triple double and comes up short with 9 dogs 8 beers and 80 tots (I'm not as young as I used to be)
Bill with a great effort as a first timer
Christie, Renee, and Debbie contribute to the cause quite nicely.
Frances, Leon, and Amelia eat as much as possible while helping chase around the J.V. Team
The J.V. team (all under 10) - (Peter, Nicole, Michael, Katherine, Sarah Cate and Rebecca (3 months old, more of a spectator than a participant) - comes in strong again with a combined 6 dogs 50 tots and who knows how many cookies and chips.
Ryan and Ginger come late and come strong with a great showing (multiple dogs and tots) and contributed to John's failed triple double by bringing a chocolate peanut butter concoction that was too good for words.
Chris V.O. comes late and brings the heat with multiple dogs and beers, also contributes to John's failed triple double by bringing delicious chocolate chip cookies.
Somethin's Cookin' in the

Vermont Hills Party in Portland
Vermont Hills Portland Party is running strong with one Double-Double already and several others closing in. Here are some pics for proof.
Absinthe
Another historical precedent: a party attendee just consumed the first Absinthe-battered corndog. And he didn't sever his ear. Updates on his condition to follow.
Dog Count
I went back to Ray's and have now had 3 dogs and 30 jojos---I'm not sure how Jojo's transfer to Tots, but, That is what I have eaten.....
Will--Why is Xavier making all of their free throws?
Talk to you all later.
Corn Dog Day Goes to the AARP Crowd in Idaho
My Dad didn't believe me that Corn Dog Day was a real holiday when I talked to him on the phone earlier. His exact words, "Yeah, and it's National Pillow Fight Day too."
After convincing him to go to the source of all real information, Wikipedia, my Dad was sold on the day. My Mom called to tell me that my Dad is buying corn dogs and tots as we blog. Pretty f'ing cool, huh? Well, keep on eating.

Epic new accomplishment in Corvallis
We had our first TD completed a few minutes ago and the trash talk was so thick that our hero was challenged to 100 push ups. Incredulously he dropped and pumped out 100 freakin push ups 2 minutes after finishing his last dog. Unreal. I am in shock....
CornDog Brooklyn - All In!
It's 5:30 on the east coast (and, thus, 5:33 in Brooklyn, where we're always 3 minutes in the future), and I'm proud to report: Done! All the corndogs are consumed! All the tater tots are fried to unrecognizible black masses! The crowds have come and gone, much beer was drank, and we feel bloated and disguisting! And overwhelmingly happy!
Union Hall, a local co-sponsor, were fantastic hosts. They cooked and fried like men on fire. Another year, another dog day done.
Our tally:
Corndogs: 80+
Tater Tots: well over 400
Latkes: 25 (cause that's how we roll eastside)
Beer: woah. Don't even ask.
Children under age 5: 3 (including Hadley Levenson, also known as the 'corndog day pinup girl')
Pregnant woman: At least 2, but given that we are living in Park Slope, the real number might be closer to N+1.
To quote one attendee:
Give me your strollers, your wailing infants, your overpriced lattes served by MFAs/Yoga Instructors with 2 ivy league degrees and a dog-eared copy of "Then We Came to the End." Give me your F train, your preening hedge fund managers/new brownstone owners, your "I think the coop is fascist but I'm a member because have you seen how cheap this organic squash is?"
Give them all to me, and add in some corndogs, tater togs and cheap beer. I lift my lamp beside the golden door of a park slope corndog day. I lift my lamp, and I say, enjoy!

Left Coast Dawgs - San Francisco
We get a late start on the West Coast, but we make for up it in style. An ambitious lad had already consumed four dogs - and he's from LA! Didn't know they got down like that in LA-LA Land, but Hollywood Jensen is showing surprising grit. Tracie has already downed 50 tots. She's from Idaho. That's how they roll.
